Luna Scenes with Shots Summary Notes


Opening Scene

  • Shot 1: Slow Zoom out from medium close up of radio at far end of breakfast table with news report voice over of news report about missing Luna over the top. Breakfast noises in the background, main character eating breakfast. Mum cuts off news report by turning off the radio and starts speaking off camera 
  • Shot 2: Medium shot of Mum turning away to kitchen counter complaining about how the police aren’t doing enough to find her, etc. her voice slowly fades away and is replaced by music 
  • Shot 3: Medium long shot of main character playing with food in cereal bowl and not eating 
  • Shot 4: Cut to long shot of main character leaving the house with school bag and hear in background off camera from mum “have a good day at school (name)!” 
  • Shot 5: Mid shot of main character putting in earphones while walking down her road, hand held shot 

School sequence/Day sequence scene

  • Walking around school, not speaking and no music just the sounds of life from each scene (walking through hallways, sitting in lesson, sitting at the lunch table)
  • Shot (?): Long shot of main character eating lunch at lunch table with some friends, she’s not eating her food though 
  • Shot (?): Mid shot of character staring still not eating food. Friend on one side of her turns to her asks; “Hey, are you alright?” No reply. “I heard about your cousin, I’m so sorry. I really hope you’re doing OK. If you ever want to talk about it, I’m here yeah?” Main character nods and smiles
  • Shot (?): Hand held shot of main character walking down her road again, this time facing away from the camera 
  • Shot (?): Medium close up of character unlocking her door 
  • Shot (?): Close up of putting bag down on the floor, hear mum in the background shouting “Hi, love!” No reply 
  • Shot (?):  Medium close up of main character doing work and writing, slow zoom in 
  • Shot (?): Medium close up of main character cleaning teeth in mirror 
  • Shot (?): Mid Shot of main character asleep in bed, dim white light lighting the room (moonlight)

  • Shot (?): Mid shot of Luna pointing to an area (yet to be found) and saying (muffled) “Find me”

Finding Body Scene

  • Shot 1: Medium long shot of character leaving her front door again with back pack shouting: “Bye Mum!” Hear off camera “Have a good day at school (name)!” 
  • Shot 2: Over the shoulder shot of character typing into google maps “Dulwich Woods” (don’t see the full name typed out though just the Dul
  • Shot 3: Low angle shot of character typing on her phone 
  • Shot 4: Extreme close up of character pressing “Find route” on phone and route appearing 
  • Shot 5: Mid shot of main character putting in earphones while walking down her road, hand held shot 
  • Shot 6: Mid shot of gates, and main character entering off camera and opening gates at entrance of woods 
  • Shot sequence showing same places as shots shown in dream, but instead of POV, main character is in similar place to where Luna was standing in her dream 
  • Shot (?): Medium shot of place where Luna’s body is.

  • Shot (?): Starts black/dark as camera will be under some leaves. Camera is uncovered by main camera as if it’s the body. Reaction of main character (loud gasp/inbreath and jump back) and cut to black 
  • Final shot: Mid shot of place where Luna’s body was, with police tape around the trees blocking it off. Slow zoom out of place with either forest sounds (rustling of trees and birds) or quiet music

Tight Jeans, directed by Destiny Ekharaga, is a quirky short film about three young guys sitting on a wall waiting for their friend outside a block of flats. They go into a funny conversation about how a man who walks past is wearing such tight jeans, and the story continues with their conversation from there. For this short film I wanted to focus on the Mise-en-scene as the main focus on the plot originates from what a passing character is wearing. It's obvious clothes and how clothes relate to identity is the idea behind the film, and this is shown through many shots of clothes and what people are wearing. In the opening shots we see a market where we see many clothes hung up and being sold. We are even given an indication to what is going to happen with a shot of "MENS TROUSERS" being advertised in the marketplace, as later on the three main characters have a conversation about men's jeans. Slap (2015) Analysis

Slap, directed by Nick Rowland, is the short 25 minute film about a teenage boy boxer (Connor) who secretly likes to dress up in women's clothes and makeup. Throughout most of Slap, there is a grainy quality to the film, and the colours are dulled down. This dulling down of colours also help to reflect genre and emotion through the film, a drama with feelings of being trapped inside a dull town where he can't truly be himself. As well as this, the duller, greyer colours used make the makeup and clothes Connor wears when does dress up stand out more. Although the film is set in modern times, this grainy quality gives the film a more 90s or early 2000s ambience. I thought the film's narrative and quality was fairly similar to the film "Billy Elliot". I thought that perhaps, this quality was mirroring the quality of the Billy Elliot film (released in 2000) and to give a harder, more realistic and down to earth ambience to the film, which also reflects the setting

Echo (2011) Analysis

Echo is a 17 minute short directed by Lewis Arnold. It's a drama about a girl who uses quite an elaborate technique to con people for money in a busy city centre. For this short I want to focus on performance and narrative. I really liked the concept of the film, and how the title helped the audience to understand the story. The performance of the main character is very good, as in the opening scene we are lead to believe that what is going on is really happening - her dad has got into an accident and she needs money for a cab to go the hospital. Her acting and crying make this scene believable, and it cons both the audience and the people who give her money for a taxi into thinking this scene is real. We find out later that the Dad had actually died in an accident, but several years ago. When we see the main character repeat this con twice again we realise that this scene she play out must have actually happened when her dad got in an accident and died several years ago, and st
