OPENING SCENE

 

INT. KITCHEN – MORNING

 

JESS is sitting at the kitchen table playing with her cereal as news report from radio at the end of the table is talking about missing girl LUNA WILLIAMS in the background.

 

NEWS REPORTER

…And the ongoing search for missing Luna Williams is proving no more successful. The 17 year old school girl was last seen leaving her school (NAME) College at 3:30pm 4 days ago on the 6th of May. Police have still found no evidence on her disappearance, and urge anyone who knows any information or saw her after 3:30pm that day to report it to their nearest police station. Police say Luna is (short description to be done when Luna is officially cast) and possibly wearing-

 

MUM turns radio report off and starts to speak half to JESS and half to herself.

 

MUM

I don’t want to hear any more of that. It’s ridiculous, the police just aren’t doing as much as they could be doing, I mean it’s been four days and they still don’t have any clue of where she could be or…

MUM

SCHOOL SEQUENCE SCENE

 

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - DAY

 

JESS is walking down the corridor, someone says hi as they walk past, JESS smiles

 

INT. CLASS ROOM – CONTINUOUS

 

JESS is in class, TEACHER talking in background off camera, asks a question and STUDENT puts up his hand next to her to answer a question as JESS stares into space

 

INT. LOCKERS – CONTINUOS

 

JESS is packing books into her locker alone

 

INT. LUNCH HALL - CONTINUOS

 

JESS is sitting with friends on either side of her who are talking to each other. She’s placed in the middle, but not talking or eating any food. FRIEND on left side of shot turns to her

 

FRIEND

Hey, are you all right?

 

JESS looks up at friend, but doesn’t reply

 

FRIEND

I heard about you cousin, I’m so sorry. I really hope you’re doing OK. If you ever want to talk about it, I’m here, yeah?

 

JESS nods and smiles

 

SCENE 3

 

EXT. ROAD – AFTERNOON

 

JESS is walking down her street facing away from the camera

 

EXT. FRONT DOOR – CONTINUOUS

 

JESS unlocks her front door

 

INT. HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

MUM

(Off camera)

Hi love!

 

INT. BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

 

JESS doing work at her desk writing

 

INT. BATHROOM – CONTINUOUS

Shot of JESS in bed, asleep lit by a dim pale light (moonlight). Extreme close up shot of JESS’s eye closed as she sleeps. Shot of moon through her bedroom window. Back to extreme close up shot of JESS’s eye closed, but now moving underneath the eyelid. Final shot of moon, now closer, through window.

 

DREAM SEQUENCE SCENE

 

EXT. FOREST – NIGHT

 

Shot of moon through or above the trees.

 

EXT. FOREST – TWILIGHT

 

LUNA is standing in the woods in a white dress, with a small smile on her face. Turns around and starts to walk off along the forest path. A sequence of several shots of different places in the forest, LUNA is always on screen, but walking away from the camera.

 

EXT. TREES – CONTINUOUS

 

LUNA stops walking and turns around, still smiling. Gestures to the trees

 

LUNA

(Muffled)

Find me.

 

INT. BEDROOM – MORNING

 

Extreme close up of JESS’s eye opening

 

 

 

FINAL SCENE

 

INT. KITCHEN - MORNING

 

JESS enters the kitchen with school bag on, in a slight rush.

 

JESS

Morning, Mum.

 

MUM

(Looking up from buttering toast on the kitchen side)

Morning, Jess, sleep well?

 

JESS

Yeah, yeah, I did. Had a weird dream though…

 

MUM

Oh, what about?

 

MUM hands JESS the piece of toast

 

JESS

(Takes a bite)

Well, I can’t really remember what happened but I was in those woods we used to go to all the time when I was younger…do you remember what they were called? I was wondering this morning and I just can’t remember!

 

MUM

Oh, I know the ones you mean! Dulwich Woods? I don’t know how you could forget, though (begins to trail off), thinking about it-

 

MUM and JESS talk over each other:

 

MUM

It has been over a decade since we last went…we should go again sometime… –

 

JESS

OK, that’s great Mum, all I was wondering, thanks! -

 

EXT. FRONT OF HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

 

JESS is leaving her house, slightly hurried

 

MUM

(Off screen)

Ok, well bye then love have a good day!

 

JESS

(Shouts)

Bye! See you later

 

EXT. ROAD - CONTINUOUS

 

Over the shoulder shot of JESS getting up google maps on her phone and typing in “DULWICH WOODS”. Low angle shot of JESS typing, then a close up of JESS pressing “FIND ROUTE” on her phone. JESS then puts in her earphones and starts walking down her road.

 

EXT. GATES OF WOODS - CONTINUOUS

 

Shot of gates and JESS enters from off camera and goes through them.

 

EXT. WOODS - CONTINUOUS

 

JESS takes a deep breath as she recognizes the path is the same as the one she first saw LUNA at in her dream. Followed by sequence of shots showing the same places as the ones in her dream

 

EXT. TREES - CONTINUOUS

 

JESS arrives at the place where LUNA pointed to in her dream. JESS goes in. We see JESS’s reaction as she finds the body, but the camera doesn’t show the body

 

CUT TO BLACK

 

EXT. TREES - DAY TIME

 

Police tape is around the trees of the place where JESS found LUNA’s body.

 

END

Tight Jeans, directed by Destiny Ekharaga, is a quirky short film about three young guys sitting on a wall waiting for their friend outside a block of flats. They go into a funny conversation about how a man who walks past is wearing such tight jeans, and the story continues with their conversation from there. For this short film I wanted to focus on the Mise-en-scene as the main focus on the plot originates from what a passing character is wearing. It's obvious clothes and how clothes relate to identity is the idea behind the film, and this is shown through many shots of clothes and what people are wearing. In the opening shots we see a market where we see many clothes hung up and being sold. We are even given an indication to what is going to happen with a shot of "MENS TROUSERS" being advertised in the marketplace, as later on the three main characters have a conversation about men's jeans. Slap (2015) Analysis

Slap, directed by Nick Rowland, is the short 25 minute film about a teenage boy boxer (Connor) who secretly likes to dress up in women's clothes and makeup. Throughout most of Slap, there is a grainy quality to the film, and the colours are dulled down. This dulling down of colours also help to reflect genre and emotion through the film, a drama with feelings of being trapped inside a dull town where he can't truly be himself. As well as this, the duller, greyer colours used make the makeup and clothes Connor wears when does dress up stand out more. Although the film is set in modern times, this grainy quality gives the film a more 90s or early 2000s ambience. I thought the film's narrative and quality was fairly similar to the film "Billy Elliot". I thought that perhaps, this quality was mirroring the quality of the Billy Elliot film (released in 2000) and to give a harder, more realistic and down to earth ambience to the film, which also reflects the setting

Echo (2011) Analysis

Echo is a 17 minute short directed by Lewis Arnold. It's a drama about a girl who uses quite an elaborate technique to con people for money in a busy city centre. For this short I want to focus on performance and narrative. I really liked the concept of the film, and how the title helped the audience to understand the story. The performance of the main character is very good, as in the opening scene we are lead to believe that what is going on is really happening - her dad has got into an accident and she needs money for a cab to go the hospital. Her acting and crying make this scene believable, and it cons both the audience and the people who give her money for a taxi into thinking this scene is real. We find out later that the Dad had actually died in an accident, but several years ago. When we see the main character repeat this con twice again we realise that this scene she play out must have actually happened when her dad got in an accident and died several years ago, and st
